During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, complete with unique features.
The first game showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is being upgraded with "Jamboree TV." This new feature introduces mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and innovative gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.
Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were revealed to be getting upgrades such as enhanced resolution, higher framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to assist in locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will also receive a significant upgrade, featuring a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 called "Star-Crossed World," along with improved graphics and framerates.
Two eagerly anticipated new titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also slated for enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will boast mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, for those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for select titles such as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

In addition to first-party titles, several third-party games are also getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will support mouse control, and Street Fighter 6, which will feature exclusive game modes.
The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a small footnote on a webpage about the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote mentioned that these upgraded games would not be transferable via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
