Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X

by Camila Feb 26,2025

Obsidian's Avowed: Xbox Series X Performance Confirmed

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a 60 frames-per-second (fps) frame rate on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation contrasts with the previously announced 30fps cap for the Xbox Series S version.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes remains unclear. A performance mode typically prioritizes 60fps at the cost of visual fidelity, while a graphics mode favors higher visual quality at 30fps. It's possible the Xbox Series X will run at 60fps by default.

The game's release date presents a curious pricing structure. Players willing to pay $89.99 gain early access on February 13th, while those opting for the $69.99 standard edition must wait until February 18th. This staggered release strategy, employed by several publishers, has already been abandoned by some, such as Ubisoft.

Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and freedom. Players will unravel mysteries, forge alliances and rivalries, and navigate a world steeped in war and intrigue.

IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging conversations, extensive player agency, and overall enjoyable gameplay, stating simply, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
