Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

by Oliver Jan 03,2025

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has cancelled the physical release of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The cancellation, announced via X (formerly Twitter), cites technical challenges related to multilingual European localization.

While the publisher offered no further details beyond the initial announcement regarding the specific localization issues, the cancellation follows a series of delays. Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the physical version was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025 before ultimately being cancelled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected by these setbacks.

This news is a significant disappointment for European fans, particularly as it would have been the first official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. Physical copies are still attainable, but only through importing from regions like the US.

Omori, an RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with trauma, blends reality and a dream world where he becomes Omori. Initially released on PC in 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was removed due to an unrelated incident involving an older, inappropriate T-shirt design.
