Capcom unveils new details for the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for a 2026 release. Prepare for visceral combat in iconic Kyoto locales, enhanced by a revamped battle system and a fresh protagonist.
The core gameplay revolves around the visceral thrill of swordplay. Developers aim for realistic sword fighting, introducing new Genma foes and dual-wielding capabilities, complemented by the devastating Omni Gauntlet. The emphasis is on the satisfying brutality of combat, with a soul absorption mechanic enabling health regeneration and special move execution. While some trailers might minimize gore, Capcom confirms dismemberment and blood effects will be fully present in the final game.
Onimusha's signature style is amplified with dark fantasy elements, powered by "Capcom's latest technology" for an optimized gaming experience.
Expect a compelling cast, including a new hero and memorable enemies distinguished by both appearance and unique abilities. The Edo period (1603-1868) serves as the game's historical backdrop, with Kyoto's rich history and haunting folklore providing the setting. Driven by faith, the protagonist wields the Oni gauntlet, battling monstrous creatures, absorbing their souls to heal and unleash devastating techniques. Engagements with real historical figures are also promised. Real-time sword combat is central, designed to maximize player enjoyment of enemy destruction.
