Overwatch 2 Planning Buffs for Reinhardt and Winston

Overwatch 2 is gearing up to significantly boost Reinhardt and Winston, two veteran tank heroes. While specifics are still under wraps, lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently hinted at upcoming buffs in a discussion with content creator Spilo. These changes aim to address longstanding balance issues and better integrate these classic heroes into Overwatch 2's one-tank meta.

Dawson revealed a design philosophy focused on avoiding overly versatile heroes, acknowledging past missteps. The upcoming adjustments reflect this, with planned improvements for both Reinhardt and Winston.

Planned Buffs:

  • Reinhardt: His Charge ability is slated for a damage increase to 300, potentially one-shotting most non-tank heroes upon pinning.
  • Winston: Expect enhancements to both his Tesla Cannon alt-fire (likely a reduced charge time) and Primal Rage ultimate. Specific details on the ultimate changes remain undisclosed.

Reinhardt and Winston, staples from Overwatch 1, have seen periods of both dominance and struggle in both games. These buffs aim to revitalize them within Overwatch 2's revised gameplay.

While Dawson didn't provide a release date, the buffs are anticipated within the next few weeks, potentially arriving as part of Overwatch 2's typical mid-season patch. This suggests a July release, or even sooner.

The interview also touched upon other heroes. Mauga's Cardiac Overdrive is under review, aiming to improve its effectiveness and encourage aggressive play. Furthermore, Dawson teased the upcoming Space Ranger support hero from Season 12, describing her as highly mobile and featuring a unique mechanic shared with only one other character. More details on these adjustments and Space Ranger are expected soon.
