DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, describing the Season 2 premiere as "one of my favorite things ever." Accompanying the announcement was a brief clip featuring John Cena in action, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the footage, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

This eagerly awaited season follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's revamped cinematic universe aims to distance itself from the critically panned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now transitioning into the new DCU with its second.

Additionally, Gunn has revealed that the events of Creature Commandos and Superman will precede the timeline of Peacemaker Season 2, with the latter's events directly impacting the show's narrative.
