PlayStation 5: Sony Unveils Theme Developments

by David Feb 22,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes are leaving the PlayStation Store on January 31st, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed they'll return in the future, offering a glimmer of hope for nostalgic gamers.

In a recent tweet, Sony acknowledged the overwhelmingly positive reception to the themes, stating they are working to bring these special designs back in the coming months.

While this is good news for those who missed out or want to re-download them, Sony has also announced that there are currently no plans to release additional themes beyond these four classic console designs. This announcement has been met with some disappointment from fans who hoped for more theme options on the PS5.

These nostalgia-themed designs allowed PS5 users to customize their home screen and menus with visuals and sounds reminiscent of the PSOne (featuring the classic console on the background), PS2 (incorporating its unique menu shapes), PS3 (with its signature wave background), and PS4 (similarly featuring wave patterns). Each theme also included the corresponding console's iconic boot-up sounds. The themes were released to celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024.
