Pokémon Paralyzed: Abilities and Affected Cards
by LillianJan 11,2025
This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, explaining its mechanics and strategies. The guide is part of a larger Pokemon TCG Pocket Guide.
Pokémon TCG Pocket faithfully recreates the Paralyzed status effect from the physical card game. This guide details its function, counters, and effective deck-building strategies.
Understanding 'Paralyzed'
The Paralyzed status prevents an opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for a single turn. The effect automatically ends before the opponent's next turn.
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies for recovery.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical TCG where cards like Full Heal can remove Paralysis, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks direct counters. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.
Pokémon with the Paralysis Ability
Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno in the Genetic Apex expansion can inflict Paralysis. Each relies on a coin flip, introducing an element of chance.
Recovering from Paralyzed
Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:
Waiting: The effect ends automatically at the start of your next turn.
Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly removes Paralysis.
Retreat: Retreating removes the status effect, as Bench Pokémon cannot be affected.
Support Cards: Currently, only Koga (under specific conditions) offers a support-based cure.
Optimal Paralyze Decks
Paralysis alone isn't a highly reliable deck archetype. Combining it with the Asleep effect, such as with an Articuno & Frosmoth strategy, significantly improves its effectiveness. A sample deck combining both effects might include:
