Insomniac Games, renowned for the Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed keen interest in expanding its game-to-screen adaptations. This follows the recent retirement of founder and CEO Ted Price, as revealed in an interview with Variety.
Co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider hinted at future projects, referencing the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film. While the film received mixed reviews, Insomniac, now under the Sony umbrella since 2019, is optimistic about future adaptations, citing Sony's successful track record with game-to-screen projects like The Last of Us. Schneider specifically highlighted their fondness for the Ratchet & Clank universe.
Insomniac's enthusiasm aligns perfectly with Sony's proven success in bringing video games to the screen. Recent successes include the 2022 Uncharted film and the critically acclaimed 2023 The Last of Us series. Further bolstering their commitment, Sony's CES 2025 press conference unveiled several upcoming projects:
The interview also marked the announcement of Ted Price's retirement after 30 years at the helm of Insomniac Games, the studio behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man. Price cited the need for new leadership to guide the company's continued growth.
Three veteran Insomniac employees—Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang—have assumed the roles of Co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in their ability to maintain Insomniac's unique culture and drive future success.
