Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed plans for a four-division rank drop halfway through the season.
Players criticized the proposed system, arguing it was demotivating for those striving for higher ranks, especially given the planned 45-day (half-season) reset frequency. In a significant about-face, Marvel Rivals confirmed that no mid-season rank reset will occur. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset, resulting in a six-division drop, remains in place.
Other planned updates remain unaffected. The addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games continues to uphold its promise of two new playable characters per three-month season. Rewards for Gold rank and above players also stay the same: a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank and above, and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster rank and above. Additional rewards, including another free costume, will be awarded to those achieving Gold rank at the season's end. Balance adjustments are also anticipated post-update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
The rapid reversal highlights Marvel Rivals' responsiveness to community feedback. The developer directly addressed player concerns within hours of the initial announcement, emphasizing their commitment to community engagement and creating the best possible gaming experience.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates on our Marvel Rivals page.
