Fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's developer, Team Cherry, confirms that the highly anticipated sequel will be available on the original Nintendo Switch, in addition to the upcoming Switch 2. This reassurance comes after the game made a brief appearance at the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2, leading to speculation that it might skip the current-generation console.
Originally announced in 2019 for PC and the original Switch, Silksong later expanded its platform reach to include PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, after its feature in the April 2 Nintendo Direct for Switch 2, fans began to worry that the game might bypass the current-gen console. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Handler, took to Twitter (X) on April 8 to address these concerns, confirming that Silksong is indeed coming to both the original Switch and the Switch 2.
While details on how the versions will differ remain under wraps, it's anticipated that the Switch 2 version will leverage the console's enhanced capabilities for a higher resolution experience.
Following the Switch 2 Direct, new images of Silksong surfaced on Nintendo Japan's official website. Although these images depict previously seen locations, fans have noted subtle graphical enhancements compared to the visuals shown in 2019.
Despite Team Cherry's silence on many details about the game, the recent Switch 2 Direct appearance and these new images have fueled speculation that a release date announcement might be imminent. Additionally, recent updates to Silksong's Steam metadata have further heightened fans' anticipation for a potential release within the year.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With the Switch 2 Direct hinting at a release sometime this year, fans are encouraged to stay updated with the latest news and developments on the game by checking out our related articles.
