EA's Vice President, Vince Zampella, recently provided an update on the future of the Need for Speed franchise. With over two years having passed since the release of NFS Unbound, EA has remained silent on any new installments.
This silence is explained by Criterion Games' current commitment to developing the next Battlefield title. Zampella emphasized that EA's primary focus is this new Battlefield game, a project incorporating feedback from players and involving four different studios. The company is dedicating significant resources to ensure its success, learning from the heavily criticized launch of Battlefield 2042.
This player-centric approach extends to future Need for Speed content. It's highly probable that EA will only revisit the Need for Speed franchise after the launch and initial post-release support for the new Battlefield game concludes. This delay might prove beneficial; recent NFS entries haven't entirely satisfied fans. A strategic pause allows time to rebuild anticipation and potentially execute a successful franchise reboot based on player feedback.
In short, don't anticipate any Need for Speed announcements in the immediate future.
