The Spring 2025 anime lineup on Crunchyroll and Netflix promises an exciting season for fans, featuring a diverse range of new and continuing series. Among the highlights, The Apothecary Diaries will debut its first season on Netflix, with the second season following on Crunchyroll. Fans can also look forward to the return of My Hero Academia with the spinoff Vigilantes, and One Piece continuing its 'Egghead Island' arc after a refreshed airing of the 'Fishman Island' arc.
Below is the comprehensive schedule of anime releases on both platforms from late March to May 2025, with key titles in bold and some top recommendations at the end.
I’ve highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are some other great picks from the list above that you should consider adding to your watch list.
Devil May Cry is Netflix's latest animated video game adaptation, and with its Limp Bizkit-soundtracked trailer and a newly composed Evanescence track, it's clear the creators understand the tone they need to strike for their audience. Netflix has had a mixed track record with anime and anime-style game IPs, ranging from hits like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to misses like Tekken: Bloodline and Dragon’s Dogma. However, with creator Adi Shankar, who has worked on Castlevania, Guardians of Justice, and Captain Laserhawk, and Studio Mir, known for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, behind the project, Devil May Cry promises to be a thrilling ride. Even if you're not familiar with the game, fans of anime like Trigun will enjoy the adventures of the ultimate '00s edgelord, Dante.
In Moonrise, the moon is fighting for independence, a concept that the creators of 2021's Moonfall might wish they had thought of for a sequel. This original net animation (ONA) boasts blockbuster talent, including animation from WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), original character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Despite the limited information available about the story, the involvement of such high-caliber creators suggests that Moonrise could be something truly special.
Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends might be unfamiliar to those outside Japan or younger audiences, but it has maintained a cult following since its manga debut in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, known for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane as he battles an arch-nemesis with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio at the helm and Aoyama's direct involvement in production, YAIBA: Samurai Legends promises to blend the style of Detective Conan with the humor of early Dragon Ball and a host of Japanese historical cameos. If you enjoy these elements, this series is definitely worth checking out.
