Troy Baker, renowned for his roles in Uncharted and The Last of Us, is reuniting with Naughty Dog for another major project. This collaboration, confirmed by Neil Druckmann, promises exciting things for fans. Read on to discover more about their enduring partnership.
A November 25th GQ article revealed that Troy Baker will once again take on a leading role in an upcoming Naughty Dog game, as confirmed by Neil Druckmann. While details remain scarce, Druckmann's endorsement highlights Baker's exceptional talent and their long-standing professional bond.
Baker's involvement signifies a continuation of his successful collaboration with Druckmann. "In a heartbeat, I would always work with Troy," Druckmann stated. Their history includes Baker's iconic portrayal of Joel in The Last of Us series and Samuel Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – projects largely overseen by Druckmann.
Their working relationship wasn't always smooth sailing. Differing approaches to character development led to initial friction. Baker's dedication to achieving perfection sometimes clashed with Druckmann's vision. Druckmann recalls an instance where he had to intervene: "This is my process. This is what I need," he said, adding, "No, you need to trust me – it's your job to be viewed, not to view."
Despite these early challenges, a strong friendship developed, leading to Baker's recurring presence in Naughty Dog's projects. Druckmann, while describing Baker as "a demanding actor," lauded his performance in The Last of Us Part II. "Troy's trying to stretch the limits of what things are, and often he succeeds at making it better than it was in my imagination." While details about the new game are limited, fans eagerly anticipate this exciting collaboration.
Troy Baker's impact extends far beyond Joel and Sam. His impressive resume encompasses numerous acclaimed video games and animated shows. He memorably voiced Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding and its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and will soon lend his voice to Indiana Jones in the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
His animation credits include Schneizel el Britannia in Code Geass, multiple roles in Naruto: Shippuden (Yamato and Pain), and Shockwave in Transformers: EarthSpark. He's also contributed to shows like Scooby Doo, Ben 10, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty. This list merely scratches the surface of his extensive career.
Baker's exceptional talent has garnered numerous nominations at prestigious awards shows, including the BAFTA Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards. His portrayal of Joel in the original The Last of Us earned him the Best Voice Actor award at the 2013 Spike Video Game Awards. His consistent excellence has cemented his position as a leading figure in the voice acting industry.
