The possibility of Wind Waker HD being ported to the Nintendo Switch 2 is still very much in the realm of possibility, despite the upcoming release of the original GameCube version on the new console. Dive deeper to understand Nintendo's perspective and the enhancements that Wind Waker HD offers over its predecessor.

During the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, it was revealed that the GameCube version of Wind Waker would be making its way to the next-generation console. This news sparked curiosity among fans about the potential for a Wind Waker HD port.
Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Product Development, Nate Bihldorff, addressed these concerns. In a discussion captured by Kinda Funny Games Daily on April 9, host Tim Gettys mentioned his conversation with Bihldorff at a Switch 2 press event in New York. When asked if the availability of the original Wind Waker on the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) service would prevent a Wind Waker HD port to the Switch 2, Bihldorff quickly dismissed this notion, stating, "no, all options are on the table". While nothing is set in stone, this leaves room for hope among fans.

Originally launched on the GameCube in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in Western markets, Wind Waker captivated audiences with its unique art style and engaging gameplay. A decade later, in 2013, Wind Waker HD was released on the Wii U, bringing with it significant enhancements. These improvements included a jump to HD visuals from 480p, enhanced lighting effects, gyro controls for aiming weapons, faster sailing mechanics, and various gameplay tweaks. With the GameCube library now exclusive to the Switch 2, porting Wind Waker HD could provide original Switch owners with their only chance to experience this upgraded version.
In other news, the game libraries previously known as Nintendo Switch Online classics are now rebranded as Nintendo Classics. Nintendo has announced that members of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will soon enjoy titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on the Nintendo Switch 2, with a promise of more titles to come. Some of these games will also feature options such as retro screen filters and widescreen gameplay, enhancing the nostalgic experience for players.
