The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, takes center stage as the Witcher 3 trilogy concludes. The trailer depicts Ciri intervening in a village's ritualistic sacrifice, revealing a darker situation than initially perceived.

While a release date remains unannounced, considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year timeframe for Witcher 4 seems plausible. Given the early stage of production, a release within the next few years is a reasonable expectation.

Platform exclusivity hasn't been confirmed, but given the expected timeframe, a current-generation-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) is likely. A Switch port, while successful for Witcher 3, seems less probable, though a potential Switch 2 version might be considered.

Gameplay details are scarce, but the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, Signs, and combat. A new addition might be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's involvement, though not as the central figure. His presence in the trailer suggests a potential mentor role.
