The PMRC Rondo Cup 2025, the latest PUBG Mobile esports tournament, concluded this past weekend with a thrilling finale. Team Yangon Galacticos emerged as the champions, securing the victory due to their overwhelming points lead. As a result, they will be taking home the lion's share of the impressive $20,000 prize pool generously provided by PUBG.
The tournament was hosted on PUBG's newest and largest map to date, Rondo. This exciting new battleground saw 16 teams compete, all of whom earned their spots through various qualifying tournaments. Notable qualifiers included D'Xavier from PMSL SEA Spring, Rangers from PMCL Spring, and R3GICIDE from PMSL CSA Fall.
Yangon Galacticos clinched their win under the PMRC Rondo Cup's innovative SMASH format rules. According to this new ruleset, a team needed to accumulate 30+ points and secure a victory in a different match to claim the title. However, after six matches, no team managed to meet these criteria, leading to Yangon Galacticos' victory based on their superior points tally.
The Rondo Cup also saw HORAA Esports and Bigetron Esports taking the second and third spots, respectively. This outcome underscores the success of the tournament and PUBG Mobile's ambitious esports plans, which have been on an upward trajectory since 2024.
Interestingly, the first tournament to introduce the SMASH rule did not see a winner under this format, raising questions about its future use. Whether the SMASH rule will return in future tournaments will depend on whether the organizers believe it can enhance skilled and entertaining gameplay.
