Nintendo has officially announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves, quelling previous concerns among fans. As we anticipated, the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to feature upgraded versions of several popular Switch 1 titles, including Tears of the Kingdom. However, a recent disclaimer on Nintendo's website had sparked worry that this particular game might not include cloud save capabilities.
Initially, the website for the Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom included a notice stating, "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This statement led to confusion and concern among the gaming community.
F fortunately, Nintendo has since updated their website, providing clarity on the matter. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza no longer mentions cloud saves at all, the updated disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This indicates that players can transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but cannot move Switch 2 saves back to the original console, as noted by Eurogamer.
The same transfer policy applies to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch 2, suggesting a consistent approach across these enhanced editions.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders now open at a set price of $449.99, the demand has been as high as expected. For more details, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
