Pesten With Cards, also known as Bullying With Cards, is a beloved classic Dutch card game. Similar games are enjoyed worldwide, including Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, and Uno. The primary objective of Pesten With Cards is to be the first to discard all of your cards. A crucial rule is that the player must announce "Last Card" before playing their final card to win. Failure to do so results in a penalty of drawing two additional cards.
The game accommodates multiple decks, including jokers. Each player starts with seven cards, with the remaining cards forming the draw pile, or stock. The top card from the stock is turned face-up to initiate play, which proceeds clockwise. If a "Pest-card" is revealed at the start, it is treated as if the dealer had played it.
During your turn, you must play a card that matches the number or suit of the card on the top of the discard pile. Jokers and Jacks are versatile and can be played on any card. If you cannot play, you must draw a card from the stock. If the drawn card is playable, you have the option to play it immediately or keep it in your hand.
When you are down to your last card, you must click the "Last Card" button above your cards to alert other players. Forgetting to do this before playing your last card incurs a two-card penalty, and your last card will not be played. Incorrectly announcing "Last Card" also results in a two-card penalty. You can press the "Last Card" button at any time, even when it's not your turn, to ensure you don't forget.
Winning the round requires playing your last card, but it cannot be one of the special cards listed below.
Each card played may trigger a specific action based on its number or type. The actions associated with these cards can vary, and players can customize them in the game settings to match their preferred rules. Here are the common actions:
Joker: The next player draws five cards. If they have a Joker, they can play it, forcing the subsequent player to draw ten cards. Each additional Joker adds five more cards to be drawn. Players who draw cards cannot play them immediately; the turn passes to the next player.
Two: The next player draws two cards. If they have a Two, they can play it, increasing the draw to four cards for the following player. Each additional Two adds two more cards to be drawn. If enabled in the settings, a Joker can be played on a Two, adding five cards. A Two cannot be played on a Joker. Players who draw cards cannot play them immediately; the turn passes to the next player.
Seven: You must play another card on top of the Seven. If you play a Seven and have only one card left, remember to say "Last Card." If unable to play another card, you must draw from the stock.
Eight: The next player skips their turn, and play continues with the player after them. In a two-player game, this allows you to play another card immediately (similar to the Seven).
Ten: All players pass one card from their hand to the player on their left. Click on the card you wish to pass.
