NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued a public apology for wrongfully banning a significant number of players who were using compatibility layers like those for Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck. These players were mistakenly flagged as cheaters during a crackdown on actual cheating activity. The bans have since been lifted.
The incident highlights the challenges of implementing anti-cheat measures, particularly when compatibility software can trigger false positives. NetEase has urged players to report genuine cheating and offered an appeal process for those wrongly banned.
Separately, the Marvel Rivals community is calling for the expansion of the in-game character ban system. Currently, this feature—allowing players to ban specific characters from matches—is only available at Diamond rank and above. Lower-ranked players argue that this limitation creates an unfair advantage for higher-ranked players and limits strategic gameplay diversity. The developer has yet to respond to this ongoing player feedback.
The debate underscores the need for balanced competitive features across all player skill levels in Marvel Rivals.
