Bloober Team, Konami Developing Silent Hill Remake

Silent Hill 1 Remake Officially Announced After Bloober Team Deal

Konami made waves during its Konami Press Start Live showcase with a major announcement: a full remake of the original Silent Hill.

The Silent Hill remake is officially underway at Bloober Team, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake. While details remain scarce, the showcase included a tantalizing teaser featuring the game's iconic logo and signature soundtrack. No release window was provided.

A Proven Partnership Continues

This news follows Bloober Team's February announcement of an agreement with Konami to develop another game based on its intellectual property. Having previously delivered the successful Silent Hill 2 remake, the Polish developer will now revisit where the franchise began.

Originally launching in 1999 for PlayStation, Silent Hill emerged as Konami's psychological horror answer to Resident Evil. The groundbreaking title established the series' atmospheric hallmarks - the perpetually fog-shrouded town, fixed camera angles, and disturbing psychological narratives. Players assume the role of Harry Mason, searching for his missing adopted daughter Cheryl while confronting unimaginable horrors.

With the Silent Hill 2 remake surpassing 2 million copies sold, Konami's decision to greenlight another remake comes as no surprise. Fan demand mirrored this move - in an IGN poll of 20,000 voters, over 61% selected the original Silent Hill as their top choice for the next remake.

"Konami sought a partner who could revitalize one of gaming's most revered horror franchises," stated Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno. "Our successful collaboration on Silent Hill 2 demonstrated our ability to honor the original's essence while implementing quality-of-life improvements."

The Silent Hill 2 remake garnered critical praise upon its October 2024 launch, earning an 86/100 on Metacritic and multiple Game of the Year accolades. Its commercial performance - reportedly reaching 1 million copies sold within days - appears to have accelerated Konami's franchise revival plans.

Beyond the upcoming remake, Konami continues expanding the Silent Hill universe with multiple projects in development:

  • Silent Hill f
  • Silent Hill: Townfall
  • A Silent Hill 2 film adaptation

IGN's 8/10 review of the Silent Hill 2 remake praised it as "a great way to visit – or revisit – one of horror gaming's most terrifying locales." With Bloober Team now entrusted with reimagining the series' roots, fans eagerly await their take on the game that started it all.
