Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the popular video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The announcement was made at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly successful game, Helldivers 2." While specifics are still under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences on the silver screen.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, with 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, introducing enemies from the original Helldivers game.

In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first cinematic portrayal."
