Concord: A Hero Shooter Launching August 23rd with a Detailed Roadmap

Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled the post-launch content plan for their upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC. This follows a successful open beta. The developers have emphasized a commitment to continuous updates, starting on day one.

No Battle Pass Required

Unlike many competitors, Concord will not feature a battle pass system. Firewalk Studios aims to provide a rewarding experience from the outset, with meaningful rewards earned through gameplay, character progression, and objective completion. This decision prioritizes a robust base experience over a monetized progression system.

Season 1: The Tempest – Arriving in October

Concord's first major update, "The Tempest," is scheduled for October. This season introduces:

  • A new playable Freegunner character.
  • A brand-new map.
  • Additional Freegunner Variants.
  • Expanded cosmetic options and rewards.
  • Weekly Cinematic Vignettes enriching the Northstar crew storyline.

An in-game store will also launch with Season 1, offering purely cosmetic items that do not impact gameplay balance.

Season 2 and Beyond

Season 2 is planned for January 2025, signaling Firewalk Studios' commitment to regular seasonal content drops throughout Concord's first year.

Gameplay Strategies and Crew Building

Game director Ryan Ellis highlighted the "Crew Builder" system, a unique approach to team composition. Players build custom crews of five Freegunners, with the option to include up to three copies of any Variant. This allows for strategic team customization based on player preference and match challenges. The six Freegunner roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden) emphasize diverse tactical contributions rather than traditional archetypes like Tank or Support. Effective team balancing unlocks Crew Bonuses, offering advantages like increased mobility and reduced cooldowns. Each Freegunner is designed for high damage output and effective combat.
