The developers of *inZOI* have addressed a concerning bug that allowed players to run over children, which has now been fixed in their latest patch. This feature, which shocked many players, was never intended to be part of the game and has been promptly resolved. Dive deeper into this issue and hear from the *inZOI* Director about their approach to realism in the game.
As inZOI progresses through its Early Access phase, players have discovered a disturbing feature that allowed them to run over children with vehicles. A Reddit post from March 28, titled "I don't think that Krafton realizes that you can run over children in inZOI," showcased footage of a player running over a child with a car, resulting in the child being flung a significant distance and ultimately meeting a tragic end.
While the developers had mentioned in the inZOI Online Showcase that characters (Zois) could be killed in various ways, including vehicular incidents, it was never intended for this to include children. A Krafton spokesperson clarified to Eurogamer on March 28 that this was an unintended bug, stating, "These depictions are highly inappropriate and do not reflect the intent and values of inZOI. We understand the seriousness of this matter and age-appropriate content and we are strengthening our internal review processes to prevent similar incidents in the future." The removal of this bug is essential, especially considering inZOI's ESRB rating of T for Teen, which could be jeopardized by such content.
inZOI has received a "Very Positive" review rating on Steam, with players praising its detailed and high-quality graphics. However, inZOI's Game Director, Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim, shared with PCGamesN on March 31 that their hyper-realistic approach presents challenges in incorporating lighter, more whimsical elements into the game.
Kjun elaborated, "This was something we thought about a lot. With such realistic graphics, we constantly questioned how far we should take that realism. At times, we wanted to incorporate comical or lighthearted elements, but they didn’t quite fit with the grounded visuals, which was a bit disappointing sometimes."
Kjun has previously expressed admiration for The Sims 4, citing its playful and goofy identity as a distinguishing feature in the genre. However, inZOI's realistic style makes it challenging to integrate similar elements. Despite these challenges, Kjun remains confident in their approach, stating, "We believe this level of immersive graphics will resonate with players and, throughout development, we’ve felt both proud and excited to bring this world to life."
While inZOI surpasses The Sims 4 in terms of detail and quality, the developers continue to search for the game's unique identity to establish it as a strong competitor in the life-simulation genre.
